A. Linn Murphree, M.D.,
Founding Board Member and Medical Adviser

An internationally renowned expert in retinoblastoma, A. Linn Murphree, MD, is founding board member of Institute for Families and is the director of the Retinoblastoma Program at Retina Institute in the Vision Center at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. He also leads the development of a world-class Ocular Oncology Service at the Doheny Eye Institute. Dr. Murphree co-chairs the Retino-blastoma Committee of the Childrens Oncology Group, a cooperative group funded by the National Cancer Institute and the NIH. With his colleagues, he has developed new protocols for treatment of this complex eye cancer. Dr. Murphree earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed three fellowships: a Fulbright at the University of Copenhagen, fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine and Wilmer Ophthalmology Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1978, he joined the faculty of the Doheney Eye Institute, where he is a professor of ophthalmology and pediatrics. Dr. Murphree is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which presented him with its prestigious Heed Award in 1995. He is the recipient of the Sheen Award, and has been invited to keynote lectures at major international meetings.
